There's one advantage, though - unlike The Enterprise Rules Engine , you don't have to recompile it every time you change it.

I've seen this happen in other places as well, and I, too, have no idea what causes it. Lowercase letters almost look like they were rendered in fixed pitch even though the font was variable, though uppercase stuff does not appear to follow that rule.

WTF-y possible workaround for #3: when your code is called, move some of the 3rd party data off-chip and use that memory. Just re-load that data before returning. Depending on how much memory access your function does, it might well be faster than putting your stuff off-chip.
