No Quack.. er, I mean "the steamer"
This spam I received looks somehow similar to No Quack -poem: Says that the object of this verse is to inculcate rather not go, said she. Ii do not like this place. The addition of this salt of science comes a savour a carriage, if you prefer. We are not here to from the ceaseless flailing without, he broached time had passed he reached the country of the with another yell, he leaped into the air, and, boulle sent to his soninlaw the sum of four thousand when the crash comes. You have meant you make developed virtue in his character. the steamer.
I guess they sold their technology..

That's common pratice. They think that will get the message through the filters. Each message gets its own uniquely generated WTF. Sure, it may make it through the cheap filters, but they never fool Gmail.

Re: No Quack.. er, I mean "the steamer"
Surely it can pass the anti-spam filters, but what's the point? It's not like I'm going to telepathically figure out what do they advertise and where I can get it.
I used to receive these "no quack" letters, and was always puzzled about their purpose.

The objective is to poison the corpi in a naïve Bayes filter, so that it loses its ability to discern spam from ham.

If you're trying to impress with your latin, you're failing. The plural of corpus is corpora. Remove corpi (and virii, since I suspect you have that in there as well) from your spell checker.
This is not a problem that requires infinite wisdom, Benj. This is a problem that requires enough neural organization to qualify as a vertebrate, apparently a stretch for some folks these days. - Cecil Adams.

I should point out that if we really gave a shit about the actual latin, we'd be on TDWTF fora as opposed to TDWTF forums. I just did some searching on google and it appears that I'm the only one who cares that it should be fora. That doesn't make "forums" or "fora" wrong, just "forums" is more popular.
I guess I'm back.

Any naive Bayes implementation on which this actually works is COMPLETELY BROKEN and it's amazing that it ever worked at all. Seriously, the part of the algorithm that eliminates that problem is part of every undergrad course and textbook, and it always has been. Does anybody actually have a filter which leaves it out for some inexplicable reason? Or are the spammers just throwing monkey shit at airplanes?

You could have saved yourself the embaressement of this post with a 3 second google search. you should probably remove clue from your dictionary :)

For the record, everyone over at xkcd cares too. As do I.
It's funny because it's out of context.

Re: No Quack.. er, I mean "the steamer"
Now that you mention it, my spam has gotten increasingly lyrical in the past few weeks. To: Tech support <> Subject: Requested update. Quote:
I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it. Because no battle is ever won he said. They are not even fought. The field reveals to a man his own folly and despair, and victory is an illusion of philosophers and fools.
William Faulkner The Sound and the Fury
All in all, this is either the stupidest thing I've read all week (and I'm porting SSDS to .NET!), or the worst trolling attempt ever. -bstorer

Re: No Quack.. er, I mean "the steamer"
Let me add to the whole "corpuses vs. corpora" confusion by pointing out that in Germany "corpora" is usually used when you're talking about literary bodies while "corpuses" (actually "Korpusse") is usually used when regular people talk about physical bodies. Both plurals are acceptable, but not interchangeable and physical-corpus and literary-corpus even have differing grammatical genders. If the situation is similar in English then both parties are right, with the "corpora" faction being righter as we're talking about literary_corpus.getPlural().

Ignoring the spelling mistake, in a language rebuff, which most have probably pointed out by now...
What have I missed?
From Google, Corpora is the latin plural of Corpus.
From Google, Corpi leads to nothing much relating or Corpus, and Virii is most certainly not the plural of Virus unless you're using it sardonically. (Which is why I don't comment on long standing users such as yourself and MSP using it)
Ah - I've missed your point. What was it?

Re: No Quack.. er, I mean "the steamer"
Recently I got some nonsense from lipsum.com and found a latin->english translator ... came up with something that almost made sense: In ac justo. Suspendisse potenti. Sed id libero
vitae urna congue rutrum. Aenean sagittis egestas ante. Nam eleifend,
justo ac tincidunt convallis, justo nisi aliquet. -->
Upon and equity. To suspend might. But this to set free life urna to
congeal rutrum. Eneus sagittis to extreme poverty before. For eleifend
, equity and tincidunt to grow strong , equity if not some.
There are three kinds of people: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who wonder what happened.

A usage I've come across is forums as the plural of forum, and then fora as the plural of forums. The distinction being that 'forums' are one website, for example TDWTF forums or Ubuntu forums, whereas 'fora' is referring to more than one website, for example onewould say something like "There are plenty of Linux fora around." It's not remotely common usage though, nor is it mine.
